On March 6, 2025, Chief Justice Geoffrey B. Morawetz of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, Commercial List, approved the CCAA Plans of Arrangement (the "CCAA Plans") of the three major Tobacco Companies in Canada – Imperial Tobacco, Rothmans, Benson & Hedges Inc. and JTI-Macdonald Corp.

The CCAA Plans include two separate compensation plans which will compensate eligible individuals across Canada who were diagnosed with Lung Cancer, Throat Cancer, or Emphysema or COPD (GOLD Grade III or IV) caused by smoking the tobacco companies' cigarettes.

Latest News

These compensation plans are:

  • The Pan-Canadian Claimants' (PCC) Compensation Plan, which will compensate Canadian residents diagnosed between March 8, 2015, and March 8, 2019, inclusive of those dates; and
  • The Quebec Class Action Administration Plan, which will compensate residents of Quebec (specifically, CQTS-Blais class members) diagnosed before March 12, 2012.

While the Court has approved the CCAA Plans, the claims process has not yet begun.

It is therefore not yet time to claim.
